Hey! You should know that this product has been discontinued. Here are our current recommended cameras in the Ultra Compact Digital Cameras category.
Panasonic Lumix FH2
While the FH2 is at the low end of Panasonic's popular FH point-and-shoot series, we still think it's a heck of a value. It shares the same specs as the FH5 except for a lower megapixel count – 14 rather than 16. We don’t mind the reduced resolution: 14 megapixels is plenty for prints large and small, and the two cameras have the same size 1/2.3-inch CCD image sensor. Pictures should be a bit crisper on the FH2, the price will be lower at $149, and you won't lose any of the feature set. It sports a Leica-branded 28mm wide-angle, 4x optical zoom lens, complemented nicely by an optical image stabilization system. The 2.7-inch LCD is on pace with competitors. There are dozens of automated shooting modes and a user-friendly help screen to guide new users through the camera functions. It shoots 720p HD video at 30 frames per second, which is par for the course these days but still a welcome feature, as is the 11-area autofocus system, face detection, and tracking. The burst mode clicks along at a 1.5 frame per second rate at full resolution. This isn’t blazing fast by any means, but it’s faster than other sub-$150 cameras.
The FH2 is about 20 percent slimmer than its predecessor, the 12.1 megapixel, 5x-zooming, 0.9-inch thick FH1. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery that lasts for about 270 shots, which is less than what the FH1’s battery could do (310 shots) but still more than most budget competitors. It's available in black, silver, blue, red, and pink. With its solid feature set, we expect it to be a solid pick for buyers who can't spend a whole lot on a new camera.
